BOHOL, Philippines — Two foreign nationals were arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in separate intelligence-driven operations in Bohol after they were found to be overstaying and without valid immigration status.
The arrests were carried out on July 30 by operatives of the BI’s Regional Intelligence Operations Unit 7 (RIOU-7), in coordination with the Panglao Municipal Police Station and the Inabanga Municipal Police Station.
Arrested were Florian Clemens Alexander Klingler, 35, a German national, who was apprehended in Das-ag, Poblacion, Panglao, and Dimitar Tsakov Maknev, 43, a Bulgarian national, who was arrested in Poblacion, Inabanga.
The BI said Klingler was able to present only visa extension receipts, with records showing that his last valid stay in the Philippines expired in October 2025.
Maknev, meanwhile, failed to present any immigration documents when apprehended.
The operations followed surveillance and verification efforts conducted by BI intelligence personnel in coordination with local police authorities.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado commended the regional intelligence units for strengthening immigration enforcement outside Metro Manila through closer coordination with local law enforcement agencies.
“Our regional intelligence units have become a vital force multiplier in enforcing our immigration laws,” Viado said, noting that the Bohol operations demonstrate that immigration enforcement remains active across the country.
He added that the BI would continue to locate, arrest and deport foreign nationals who violate Philippine immigration laws.
The two foreign nationals are expected to undergo appropriate immigration proceedings in connection with their violations.
