Incumbent Guindulman Vice Mayor Maria Fe Piezas died Tuesday, Aug. 22, the local government confirmed. She was 79.
The death of Piezas, who became mayor for nine years, was announced by Mayor Ben Balo on Wednesday.
Balo did not disclose the cause of death, but instead asked the people of the province to pray for the late vice mayor as well as for the family to overcome her untimely demise.
“Ikaw ang sinugdan sa kabag-ohan sa atong hinigugma nga Lungsod sa Guindulman. Guindulman wouldn’t be Guindulman now kung dili tungod sa imong kinasingkasing nga pagpangalagad. Ang imong panerbisyo nakapatik na ug magpabilin hangtud hangtud sa among tagsa tagsa nga mga kasing-kasing. Ikaw maoy naghatag kanako og higayon nga mamahimong mapaubsanon og madasigon nga Mayor sa atong Lungsod,” said Balo in a statement.
He thanked the former mayor for her service.
“DAGHANG SALAMAT MAYOR FE sa gugma ug mga pahiyom hilabi na sa mga kabag-ohan sa atong Lungsod. We love you. We will forever miss you. And your legacy will forever be remembered. May you Rest in Peace in the arms of our loving Father,” he added.
Bohol 3rd dist. Rep. Alexie Besas-Tutor said Piezas was “always be our mayor and her accomplishments are beyond compare and hard to fill.”
“I cannot fathom the fact of her passing..
I came to know her character more than a decade already. We lost a great leader. I wished she could have been younger so she can serve with much passion as she did in her (9) years as Mayor,” said Tutor in a statement.
” I pray that you will be happy wherever you are now. I will never forget how you always made me feel; how much you believed in me through the years & have always been with me.. (wala gyud mag lu-ib ever ❤️), ” she added.
A physician, Piezas became mayor of Guindulman for nine years and vice mayor twice until her death.
