A sea cow, locally known as “dugong,” was found dead in Baclayon town Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023.

The female sea cow measured at least three meters with an estimated weight of 200-350 kilograms. When it was found, the sea cow was already in the state of decomposition.

The dugong was found floating in the vicinity of Baliaut, Baclayon by fisherman Paul Baugbog at noon.

It was buried at 4 p.m.

In a Facebook post, Jojo Baritua said
the presence of dugong (serina) in Baclayon strengthen the town’s title as the Marine Mammals hot-spot in the Philippines.
