UBAY, Bohol — A 37-year-old man was shot dead in Barangay Bay-ang, Ubay, Bohol, on Friday night, August 7, with police looking into a possible land dispute as the motive.
The victim was identified as Lucio Balabis Jr., alias “Jun-Jun,” 37, married, and a resident of Barangay Bay-ang.
Residents reportedly found Balabis’ body in a canal inside a rice field in Purok 2 of the barangay. He sustained gunshot wounds to his head and body.
Initial investigation by the Ubay Municipal Police Station showed that the shooting took place at around 7:30 p.m.
Police said a dispute involving land or farmland may have triggered the shooting.
The alleged shooter, identified as “Bobong,” reportedly the victim’s older brother, surrendered to the barangay captain on Saturday morning.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and establish the suspect’s possible liability.
