CATIGBIAN, Bohol — Construction of a P61-million Regional Food Terminal broke ground Friday, August 7, in Barangay Poblacion Weste, Catigbian, in a project expected to strengthen the marketing, distribution and storage of agricultural and fishery products in the province.
The facility will be funded by Food Terminal, Inc. (FTI) and will serve as a centralized hub for the collection, storage, processing and distribution of produce from farmers and fisherfolk in Catigbian and nearby areas.
Mayor Benjie Oliva said the project will provide modern facilities to improve the handling, storage and marketing of local agricultural and fishery products while strengthening their connection to larger markets.
The terminal is also expected to improve food security by creating better market opportunities for local producers and helping ensure a more stable supply of farm and fishery products.
Bohol Gov. Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado congratulated the Catigbian local government, led by Oliva, Vice Mayor Esteban Angilan Jr. and the members of the Sangguniang Bayan, for securing the project through its partnership with FTI.
Aumentado said the project would contribute to the province’s efforts to strengthen food security, which remains one of his administration’s priority agendas.
“We are happy because this will greatly help improve production and product quality, expand market opportunities, and strengthen food security in the province,” Aumentado said.
FTI Vice President for Corporate Affairs Atty. Oliver Dicdican said the project would provide significant support to Bohol as an agricultural province.
The groundbreaking and capsule-laying ceremony was attended by FTI officials, including Dicdican; Atty. Nicolas Aranilla Jr., vice president for business support; and Tristan Jasper Udtohan, technical assistant-accountant.
Officials and employees of the Catigbian municipal government, as well as representatives from the Bohol Provincial Capitol through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, also attended the ceremony, along with barangay officials.
The Regional Food Terminal is expected to serve as an important link between local producers and buyers by providing a dedicated facility for the consolidation, storage, processing and distribution of farm and fishery products.
