TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — A Samar cobra was safely captured on Saturday (July 4) in a residential area in Purok 12, Poblacion, Candijay, after it was reported by concerned residents, local authorities said.

The Candijay Emergency Rescue Unit (CERU), with the assistance of wildlife responder Ruel Lucero, successfully captured the venomous snake, preventing any harm to residents.

Authorities said the cobra will be turned over to the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for proper handling and eventual release into a suitable natural habitat.

CERU thanked Lucero for his assistance in the operation, saying his expertise helped ensure both public safety and the protection of the wildlife.

The rescue unit also reminded the public to avoid approaching or attempting to capture wild snakes and instead immediately report sightings to local authorities or trained responders.

Officials stressed that while the Samar cobra is highly venomous, it plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance by helping control rodent populations.

They urged residents to support efforts that protect both human lives and wildlife.
