JAGNA, Bohol — Five schools in this southern Bohol town were identified in social media posts containing threats to shoot people at schools, prompting the municipal government to suspend classes in all levels in public and private schools on Friday, Aug. 7.
The Facebook posts specifically identified five schools as targets:
Lonoy Heroes Memorial High School — Grades 7 to 12
Faraon National High School — Grades 7 to 12
Jagna High School — Grades 7 to 12
Central Visayan Institute Foundation (CVIF) Junior High School Department — Grades 7 to 10
Colegio de la Medalla Milagrosa — Grades 7 to 12
The schools had sought police assistance following the circulation of the reported threats, as concern grew over the safety of students and school personnel.
Jagna Mayor Mark Louie Monungolh ordered the immediate suspension of classes as authorities continued to validate the authenticity and credibility of the social media posts.
Monungolh said the suspension was “purely preventive in nature” and was intended to protect students, teachers and non-teaching personnel while law enforcement authorities conduct security assessments and strengthen security operations in schools.
“The safety, security, and well-being of every learner, teacher, and non-teaching personnel shall always come before anything else,” Monungolh said.
The Jagna Municipal Police Station, together with other uniformed personnel and school authorities, has conducted initial security assessments in schools across the municipality.
The mayor also directed the police, in coordination with other uniformed personnel and force multipliers, to intensify security operations, including the deployment of personnel in strategic areas, increased visibility patrols and 24/7 roving operations.
The Philippine National Police, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection and force multipliers remain on full alert while authorities assess the reported threat.
Monungolh urged school administrators to use modular, online or other alternative learning modalities, when practicable, during the suspension to ensure that learning continues without compromising the safety of students.
He also appealed to parents and students to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information and rely only on official announcements from the Jagna local government, Department of Education and law enforcement agencies.
“The safety of every Jagnaanon will always be our foremost priority,” the mayor said.
