SAGBAYAN, Bohol — A 63-year-old retired police officer was wounded after he was shot by an unidentified gunman outside his home in Barangay Katipunan, Sagbayan town on the evening of July 7.
The victim was identified as Samuel Nacua, a retired member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and a resident of Purok 2, Barangay Katipunan.
According to the initial police investigation, Nacua had just returned from his rice field and was walking toward his house when an unidentified suspect suddenly fired three shots using a still undetermined caliber of firearm.
Only one of the bullets struck the victim, hitting his left leg. Despite his injury, Nacua managed to run inside his house for safety while the suspect fled in an unknown direction.
The victim was immediately transported by a local government ambulance to the Sagbayan Rural Health Unit, where he received initial medical treatment.
Police have launched a hot pursuit operation to identify and arrest the suspect.
Investigators believe personal grudge may have been the motive behind the attack, although the investigation remains ongoing to determine the exact motive and identify the gunman.
