TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL — Alarmed by recent flooding near the Bohol Wisdom School along CPG Road during heavy rains, Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado called for urgent action to address the problem.

Governor Aumentado on Wednesday, June 2, summoned four engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)–First District to a meeting at the provincial Capitol. The governor stressed the need for concrete solutions to prevent further flooding along the road that connects the school to the Capitol area.

The engineers — John Paul Gascon, Aimee Divino, Ma. Fe Manug, and Amiel Sacdalan — presented updates on ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects aimed at mitigating floods in Tagbilaran City and nearby municipalities.

During the discussion, it was revealed that the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) project for the city, which is under DPWH implementation, has been delayed due to the lack of approval from the concerned barangay. The local government has yet to issue a certification permitting the installation of the facility in their area.

As a result, the agency has shifted focus to the installation of drainage systems in flood-prone areas.

Aumentado also inquired about the status of other national government-funded flood control projects that remain unfinished. He emphasized that he does not want the public to continue suffering due to flooding, especially when projects are already funded but not implemented.

DPWH also reported that drainage projects in some areas in Dauis have not pushed through because local residents declined the proposed construction.

The governor instructed the agency to submit a report on the delayed projects, including formal request letters, so he can help facilitate their implementation and fast-track progress.

Aumentado also coordinated with First District Rep. Baba Yap to ensure collaboration and support in the rollout of both the drainage system and the STP project.

In the meantime, Aumentado directed DPWH to conduct cleanup operations on existing canals, especially during the rainy season, citing that accumulated waste is likely contributing to the flooding. He stressed the importance of regular maintenance to prevent water from backing up during downpours.

DPWH reported that during recent declogging operations, they collected a truckload of plastic waste from the drainage canals.

Aumentado appealed to the public to support government initiatives and practice responsible waste disposal to prevent floods.

“We are calling on everyone to cooperate. The flooding problem is often caused by people’s neglect when it comes to proper waste management,” the governor posted on his official Facebook page. With reports from PIMO
