GETAFE, Bohol — A 63-year-old fruit vendor was shot dead by two unidentified men riding a motorcycle in Barangay Carlos P. Garcia, Getafe town, on Monday morning.
The victim was identified as Zenaida Leoligao, 63, married, and a resident of the barangay.
According to the initial police investigation, Leoligao was tending to her fruit stall at around 10 a.m. when two men approached her, pretending to buy apples. Moments later, one of the suspects suddenly shot the victim twice before the pair fled on a motorcycle toward the town proper of Getafe.
Leoligao sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was rushed to Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital in Talibon. However, attending physicians declared her dead on arrival.
Crime scene investigators recovered two spent shell casings from a .45-caliber pistol at the scene.
Police are looking into robbery as one of the possible motives behind the attack. However, investigators said the suspects failed to take any belongings from the victim due to the presence of many people in the area at the time of the shooting.
The Getafe Municipal Police Station has launched an investigation to identify and arrest the suspects and determine the exact motive behind the killing.
