TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — The provincial government of Bohol, in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), has distributed 130 fabricated fiberglass fishing boats to various fisherfolk organizations across the province.

The turnover ceremony was held under the province’s continuing efforts to strengthen the fisheries sector, improve food security, and enhance livelihood opportunities for coastal communities.

The assistance package consisted of 10 non-motorized paddle boats, five 30-foot motorized fishing boats, and 115 units of 22-foot motorized fishing boats.

The beneficiaries came from 33 local government units, namely Alburquerque, Anda, Baclayon, Bien Unido, Buenavista, Calape, Candijay, Carmen, Clarin, Corella, Cortes, Dauis, Duero, Dimiao, Garcia Hernandez, Guindulman, Getafe, Jagna, Lila, Loay, Loboc, Loon, Mabini, Maribojoc, Panglao, Pilar, San Miguel, Sevilla, Tagbilaran City, Talibon, Tubigon, Ubay, and Valencia.

Provincial officials said the initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to expanding livelihood opportunities for organized fisherfolk groups. Through the OPA, headed by Provincial Agriculturist Liza Quirog, the province allocated substantial resources to support the fishing sector.

The program forms part of Bohol’s broader strategy to ensure food security, help stabilize fish prices in local markets, and empower fishing communities through increased productivity.

Provincial leaders also expressed their goal of helping fisherfolk organizations manage commercial fishing boats with government support, noting that a more abundant fish supply could contribute to lowering market prices.

Aumentado remain optimistic that strengthened cooperation among fisherfolk associations and sustained government assistance will boost fish production and promote economic growth in coastal communities throughout Bohol.
