SAN MIGUEL, Bohol — Police authorities have clarified that a roasted animal featured in a viral social media post was a goat, not a dog, following public concern raised by an animal welfare group.
According to an initial investigation by the Philippine National Police personnel from the San Miguel Police Station, there is no evidence to support claims that a dog was slaughtered and served during an event in Barangay San Jose.
The controversy began after the animal welfare group Bohol Animal Rescue and Kindness (Bark) shared photos online alleging that a dog had been killed and roasted.
The post, which also mentioned the presence of a barangay captain, quickly gained traction and drew mixed reactions from netizens.

However, police said their initial findings indicate that the roasted meat served during the gathering was goat (“kanding”), not dog. Authorities also noted that the barangay captain mentioned in the viral post was merely invited to partake in the meal.
The incident has prompted further verification of details, with additional investigation expected from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Police urged the public to exercise caution in sharing unverified information online, as investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
