PNP seizes P3.74-M shabu, arrests top drug target as Asean security tightened in Bohol

Police arrested a top-priority illegal drug suspect and seized more than half a kilo of suspected shabu valued at P3.74 million during a buy-bust operation in Dauis town, Bohol, early Saturday morning, Jan. 24.

The operation forms part of heightened anti-illegal drug and security measures being implemented to ensure public safety and maintain order while Bohol hosts Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) meetings and related events.

The suspect was identified as Karl Alegre, alias “Dongkoy,” 41,  a resident of Purok 6, Barangay Songculan. He was arrested at around 1:15 a.m. on January 24 in Purok 8, Barangay Songculan, Dauis.

Police identified Alegre as a High-Value Individual (HVI) and a top-priority drug personality based on an approved Target Intelligence Packet (TIP).

The operation was carried out by operatives of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) under the leadership of Provincial Director Col. Patricio Degay Jr., through the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) and the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU). The buy-bust operation was led by Lt. Noubel Padernal under the supervision of Lt. Col. Joemar Pomarejos, in coordination with the Dauis Municipal Police Station.

Recovered from the suspect were an estimated 550 grams of suspected shabu with a street value of ₱3,740,000, the marked buy-bust money, a cellular phone, a sling bag used to contain the illegal drugs, and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the transaction.

Degay said the arrest was part of intensified anti-illegal drug and anti-criminality operations aimed at ensuring public safety and order during the Asean meetings and related activities being held in Bohol.

The suspect will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
