CEBU CITY – Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro expressed gratitude to the province of Bohol for pledging P5 million in financial assistance to support Cebu’s ongoing relief and recovery operations following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the province on September 30, 2025.
Bohol Governor Erico Aris Aumentado led the initiative, assuring Cebu of immediate assistance despite his province also being affected, though sustaining only minor damage. Bohol did not declare a state of calamity but swiftly extended help to its neighboring province.
In addition to the financial aid, medical teams from Bohol have been deployed to Bogo City, reinforcing local personnel in providing urgent care and essential services to earthquake-affected families.
Baricuatro said the gesture reflects the enduring solidarity and close ties between the two provinces.
“From the bottom of our hearts, we thank Bohol and Governor Aumentado for standing with us in this difficult time,” Baricuatro said.
The devastating 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck on September 30 claimed at least 72 lives — 27 of them in Bogo City — and injured dozens more. Beyond the tragic loss of life, the tremor left a trail of destruction across northern Cebu, toppling houses, schools, churches, and vital infrastructure. Its force rippled across neighboring provinces, including Negros Oriental, Bohol, Siquijor and Leyte, where thousands of frightened residents fled from homes and establishments as the ground shook violently.
