The provincial government of Bohol convened its Disaster Preparedness Team on Friday, September 26, 2025, to finalize contingency measures as Typhoon Opong (international name: Bualoi) threatens the province.
Vice Governor Nick Besas, who is acting as governor, presided over the meeting joined by Board Member Dionisio Joseph Balite, chairperson of the Committee on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction; Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Handel Lagunay; Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Dr. Anthony Damalerio; and focal representatives from the Provincial General Services Office, Provincial Engineering Office, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development, Philippine National Police, Philippine National Police Maritime Group, and the Bohol Provincial Tourism Office.
Officials outlined a set of preparedness actions:
Relief and supplies: The Department of Social Welfare and Development has prepositioned 24,000 food packs, supplemented by 6,000 more from the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development. Ready-to-eat food packs are also prepared for stranded passengers.
Roads and safety: Road-clearing teams from the Provincial General Services Office and Provincial Engineering Office are on standby. The Philippine National Police committed to full visibility across stations and will deploy maritime units to coastal communities.
Emergency response units: TARSIER117 Search, Rescue and Retrieval, Mountain Search and Rescue (MoSaR), and other teams are on alert. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has activated its Emergency Operations Center and response clusters.
Tourism advisory: The Provincial Tourism Office has advised tour operators to monitor weather updates and exercise caution, especially in water-based activities.
Emergency hotlines have also been activated: 0917-510-1490, 0949-795-5530, 0925-830-0117, (038) 501-8115, and (038) 412-0960.
Authorities urged Boholanos to remain vigilant, prepared, and responsive as Typhoon Opong brings rains and winds over parts of the Visayas.
