Residents in Eastern Bohol were advised to brace for rains and strong winds as Typhoon Opong (international name: Bualoi) intensified while approaching the Eastern Visayas region Thursday night, Sept. 25.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) placed the eastern and central municipalities of Bohol under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1, which means strong winds of 39 to 61 km/h may be expected within the next 36 hours.
Bohol areas under Signal No. 1:
Getafe
Talibon
Bien Unido
Ubay
Trinidad
Pres. Carlos P. Garcia
Mabini
San Miguel
Alicia
Candijay
Anda
Guindulman
Pilar
Dagohoy
Danao
Buenavista
Inabanga
Clarin
Sagbayan
Carmen
Sierra Bullones

Jagna
Hazards and Warnings
Pagasa warned of minimal to minor threats to life and property in these towns, including possible flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in upland communities. Coastal waters around Bohol may also become rough to very rough, making sea travel risky for small vessels.
Although Opong is expected to make landfall in Northern Samar or Eastern Samar between midnight and early Friday morning, its wide circulation is already bringing rains to nearby areas in Central Visayas, including Bohol.
Precautionary Measures
Local disaster officials have advised Boholanos to stay alert, prepare emergency supplies, and avoid unnecessary travel, especially along rivers and coastal areas. Fisherfolk and small boat operators were urged not to venture out to sea.
Authorities reminded residents to monitor updates from PAGASA as the typhoon is forecast to cross Eastern Visayas and Bicol before heading toward southern Luzon and northern Mimaropa by Friday.
