TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL — Police have identified a person of interest in the brazen daylight shooting of Rodelito Tanio, who was killed while holding his two-week-old grandchild outside their home in Barangay Bool on Saturday morning, June 28.
Lt. Col. John Kareen Escober, chief of the Tagbilaran City Police Station, confirmed on Tuesday that investigators are now closely monitoring a potential suspect.
“We already have a person of interest, and we are carefully validating leads related to the case,” Escober said.
Tanio, 42, died on the spot after being shot in the head at close range by a back rider from a motorcycle-riding tandem along Purok 7, F. Ligason Street at around 7:10 a.m.
Based on the account of his wife, Rosalie, the victim had been receiving threats to his life in the months leading up to the shooting.
Initial investigation revealed that Tanio was seated on a chair near their house, cradling his newborn grandchild, when two men on a motorcycle stopped nearby. Both suspects were wearing full-face helmets, bonnets, and jackets to obscure their identities. During a short conversation, the back rider suddenly pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the head.
The suspects immediately fled the scene toward Barangay Dampas.
Authorities recovered CCTV footage showing the incident, but the video did not provide a clear view of the suspects’ faces due to their helmets.
Police are continuing their investigation and following up on all leads, with the identified person of interest now under scrutiny as a key part of solving the case.
