Harana (serenade) is still relevant even with the passing of time.

That’s according to Bohol 1st District Rep. Edgar Chatto.

Days before Valentine’s Day, Chatto shared in the social media his video singing “Harana” popularized by OPM rock band Parokya ni Edgar.

He further recounted the conversation he had with wife, Balilihan Mayor Pureza Chatto on Sunday morning, Feb. 11.

He told Pureza that he would serenade her on Valentine’s Day.

Pureza told him, ” Uso pa diay ng harana ron?” to which the former governor replied, “Aww, atoa tinod-on bi with guitarist.”

“So mao to, gikilig pod si Pureza. đŸ¥°,” said Cong. Chatto.

During the olden days in the Philippines, the tradition of “harana” was a popular event and a courageous display of affection.

A man wishing to court the woman he loved would arrange for a group of friends to help him serenade her with guitar and singing. They would stand outside her window and play love songs in order to win the woman’s attention.

Watching from her house, the woman, along with all the family members present, would enjoy the romantic performance.

This was a chance for the young man to court not only his lover but her family as well.

Do you agree with Cong. Chatto?
