GCash, the Philippines’ leading mobile wallet, surpasses its target of planting 2.3 million trees by end-2023, in time for this year’s celebration of World Environment Day.

As of June 2023, GCash has already planted 2.4 million actual trees through its digital platform, GForest.

This 2023, World Environment Day celebrates its 50th year. This annual movement led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) enjoins millions of people globally to protect and restore the Earth. It calls on both public and private organizations, as well as individuals, to contribute in creating a more sustainable world.

Since the launch of GForest in 2019, GCash, together with its partners,  has been championing awareness for environmental conservation and green practices, connecting Filipinos wherever they are, and creating a better tomorrow for them through the app’s wide and inclusive digital ecosystem.

To achieve its sustainability objectives, GCash has worked closely with local government units and local and international partner organizations for tree planting, marketing, and technology.

GCash, through its partners, has already planted seedlings across the country in all three major islands: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

In Luzon, the sites are Ipo Watershed (220K trees), La Mesa Ecopark (160K trees), and Culion, Palawan (325k trees). In the Visayas, the sites are Luyang Watershed (600K trees), Tañon Strait (550K trees), and most recently, Negros Oriental (500k trees). Lastly in Mindanao, the sites are in the provinces of Sarangani (General Santos) and South Cotabato (Koronadal), both totaling one million trees.

GCash introduced GForest in 2019 as the first-ever sustainability feature by a fintech company in the Philippines to enable Filipinos to plant trees and contribute to the reforestation efforts in the Philippines. GCash users earn green energy by using the app’s various convenient services such as Pay Bills, Send Money, Cash-in, Bank Transfer, and GSave..

The collected energy can then be used to plant a virtual tree via the GForest while GCash and its partners plant the actual trees on various sites across the country. To date, GForest has grown its number of users to 13 million, making it one of the biggest digital environmental movements in the country.

Celebrate World Environment Day with GCash and become a green hero  by downloading the GCash app for free on Google Play, the App Store, and the Huawei AppGallery. For more information, visit www.gcash.com.ph
