At least one person died and three were missing after a passenger ship caught fire on Sunday afternoon, June 26, 2022, the Coast Guard said.

The victim was identified as Adolfo Ranola, 53, a resident of Trinidad town, Bohol.

PCG Ormoc said there were 99 passengers rescued who were brought to Hilongos, Leyte; 25 rescued passenges brought to Brgy Tugas in President Carlos P. Garcia (PCPG); and 34 Gaus Island still in PCPG.

There were three who were reportedly missing.

The fast craft vessel MV Mama Mary Chloe, which was carrying 157 passengers and crew members, left Ubay port at past 11 a. m. on Sunday to anchor at the town of Bato, Leyte.

The ship caught fire around 1 p. m. local time and a distress call.

The incident is being investigated, the Philippine Coast Guard.
