Passengers jump from ferry that catches fire in waters off Bohol and Leyte

A ferry carrying 157 people caught fire on Sunday afternoon, June 26.

Netizens shared several pictures of people in life vests floating in the sea waiting to be rescued. In the background there is thick smoke bellowing out of the two-story passenger vessel.

While the cause of the fire is still unknown, the passengers had been rescued.

The MV Mama Mary Chloe had departed from Ubay, Bohol Island to anchor at the town of Bato, Leyte.

The ship caught fire around 1 p. m. local time and a distress call.

The fire took nearly hours to contain after it began.

The incident is being investigated, the Philippine Coast Guard.
