Noted theoretical physicist and Ramon Magsaysay Awardee Ma. Victoria Bernido dies

Noted theoretical physicist and recipient of 2010 Ramon Magsaysay Award Dr. Maria Victoria Carpio- Bernido died due to cancer on Thursday, Jan. 6, her school said. She was 60.

The renowned physicist is survived by her husband Dr. Christopher Bernido, also a noted physicist-educator and 2010 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee.

Bernido graduated her Ph.D. Theoretical Physics at State University of New York Albany in 1989.

She also co-founded the Central Visayas Institute Foundation in Jagna town.

She had conducted research on quantum mechanics and wrote over papers in international journals and also authored several books.
