Dead sea turtle washes up at Garcia Hernandez

A dead green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) washed up on a beach area in Garcia Hernandez town on Wednesday morning.

Residents of Sitio Camarus in Barangay West-Lungsodaan told the police that they noticed the dead sea turtle in the shoreline around 10 a.m.

The turtle had fractured shell.

It was not yet known how the animal died.

Hunting, killing, harming, trading or even possessing endangered animals are punishable under the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001 (Republic Act No. 9147).

Violators face jail terms of up to 12 years and fines of up to P1 million.
