TAGBILARAN CITY — A family is appealing to a person caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera taking a wallet allegedly left behind by a senior citizen inside St. Joseph Cathedral in Tagbilaran City to return it, including its estimated P100,000 cash.
In a Facebook post, Joy Lloren Cacho appealed to the unidentified individual to return the wallet, saying it belonged to her mother-in-law, who accidentally left it inside the church.
According to Cacho, CCTV footage showed the person picking up the wallet, placing it inside a bag and leaving without informing the security guard, church personnel or anyone else about the recovered item.
She said the money inside the wallet was the senior citizen’s hard-earned savings.
The family said the incident had caused distress to the elderly woman, who had come to the Philippines for a vacation and was looking forward to celebrating her birthday with her brothers and sisters on Sunday.
Instead of enjoying her vacation and family gathering, she was left dealing with the loss, Cacho said.
Cacho appealed to the person concerned to return the wallet and its contents, either by surrendering them to the church administration or contacting the family privately.
She said the family was willing to settle the matter peacefully and stressed that their intention was not to embarrass or shame the individual but to recover the missing belongings.
The family also urged the public to share the appeal to help reach the person seen in the CCTV footage.
As of this writing, there was no information on whether the wallet had been recovered or whether a formal complaint had been filed.
