TAGBILARAN CITY — A 13-year-old boy died after a utility vehicle driven by a 14-year-old boy veered off the road and hit him while he was walking along a sidewalk in Barangay Aliguay, Maribojoc, Bohol, on Saturday, October 31.

Police said the victim was walking along the roadside when the Kia Bongo III, traveling from Antequera town toward Tagbilaran City, suddenly swerved into the opposite lane and struck him.

Initial investigation showed that the 14-year-old driver, a resident of Barangay Dampas, Tagbilaran City, allegedly fell asleep while driving, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

The vehicle went off the road and hit the boy before crashing into a concrete fence and two parked motorcycles.

Responding personnel rushed the victim to the Maribojoc Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Maribojoc Municipal Police Station responded to the incident after receiving a call for assistance from the town’s Emergency Response Unit.

Police have yet to establish whether other people were inside the vehicle with the minor driver.
