CEBU CITY — More than 11,000 volunteers joined this year’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), covering 47 cleanup sites across Central Visayas or Region 7.
Initial figures released at 4 p.m. showed that 35,781.4 kilograms of trash had been collected during the simultaneous cleanup activities.
The effort involved 11,155 volunteers and 374 partner organizations, including local government units, community groups, private-sector organizations and other stakeholders.
Organizers said the volunteers covered a combined 81.241 kilometers of coastal areas, underscoring the broad participation of communities in efforts to protect the region’s marine and coastal ecosystems.
A total of 4,853 sacks and 1,700 trash bags were used to gather the collected waste.
The 2026 ICC carried the theme “Clean Seas for Resilient Communities,” highlighting the shared responsibility of communities and different sectors in keeping coastal areas clean and protecting marine resources.
The initial figures may still be updated as participating areas consolidate and submit their final cleanup data.
