PANGLAO, Bohol — Residents of Panglao and Dauis, including fisherfolk and community responders, are being trained to respond to drowning emergencies through a new module of the Sagip CPR advocacy.
Bell-Kenz Pharma is holding the training on Monday, Sept. 21, at the Panglao Cultural Center, combining Hands-Only CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training with a module focused on drowning prevention and emergency response.
The new module teaches the Drowning Chain of Survival, which includes preventing drowning, recognizing distress and calling for help, providing flotation, safely removing a person from the water, and giving appropriate care.
Participants include fisherfolk, persons with disabilities, disaster risk reduction and management officers, barangay health workers, solo parents and other community members from Panglao and Dauis.
The training aims to help coastal residents recognize drowning emergencies, seek assistance promptly and provide appropriate help while waiting for responders. It also stresses safe rescue practices, including providing flotation without putting the rescuer at risk.

The briefer cited 778 deaths from accidental drowning and submersion in the Philippines from January to November 2025, making it the country’s 28th leading cause of death during the period.
The campaign also highlights prevention, urging people to closely supervise children, wear life jackets when necessary, and avoid swimming alone or under the influence of alcohol.
Sagip CPR is an advocacy of Bell-Kenz Pharma conducted with the Philippine Heart Association to expand access to lifesaving CPR skills.
