TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — The new Tourist and Research Center of the Philippine Tarsier Foundation Inc. (PTFI) at the Corella Tarsier Sanctuary was inaugurated Friday, with British Ambassador to the Philippines Sarah Hulton as guest of honor.
The new facility is expected to strengthen efforts to protect and conserve the Philippine tarsier while supporting research and promoting responsible tourism at the sanctuary.
Hulton also toured the sanctuary and viewed the Philippine tarsiers during her visit.
According to the provincial government, Hulton shared that King Charles III had personally seen Philippine tarsiers, which had sparked his special interest in the species.
The provincial government said the ambassador’s visit and the King’s interest in the tarsier underscored international recognition of Bohol’s natural heritage, including the Philippine tarsier.
The province also highlighted Bohol’s status as a Unesco Global Geopark and its efforts to preserve its unique natural and cultural resources for future generations.
The Philippine tarsier (Carlito syrichta) is one of the country’s most distinctive wildlife species and is considered a major attraction in Bohol.
