TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL — Classes in kindergarten, elementary and secondary levels in both public and private schools in Bilar have been suspended effective immediately due to worsening and unhealthy air quality caused by haze blanketing Bohol.
Municipal Mayor Norman D. Palacio issued the memorandum on Thursday, September 3, ordering the suspension to remain in effect until further notice.
According to the memorandum, the haze is reportedly associated with forest fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra, Indonesia, with smoke and particulate matter being carried by prevailing winds toward Bohol.
Palacio advised the public to remain indoors whenever possible, limit outdoor activities, and take necessary precautions, particularly children, senior citizens, individuals with respiratory conditions and other vulnerable groups.
School heads and concerned officials were also directed to disseminate the memorandum and ensure its proper implementation.
