TAGBILARAN CITY — A family pet had to be euthanized after suffering severe injuries when it was hit by a white vehicle along M. Espuelas Street in Tagbilaran City at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 15.
Bohol Animal Rescue and Kindness, Inc. (Bark) said CCTV footage showed the vehicle striking dogs on the road.
One of the dogs sustained a dislocated lumbar spine. Despite efforts by the family, the animal’s injuries were severe enough that they eventually decided to have it euthanized.
Bark, a member of the City and Provincial Rabies Councils, appealed to the driver of the vehicle to come forward and urged motorists to slow down to avoid similar incidents.
The animal welfare group also reminded pet owners to keep their dogs secured and away from roads and public places.
Bark cited Republic Act 8485, as amended by RA 10631 or the Animal Welfare Act, which prohibits animal cruelty and requires proper care and assistance for animals.
It also cited Republic Act 9482 or the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007, which requires dog owners to keep their pets under control and prevent them from roaming in public places.
Bark said anyone who has information about the white vehicle may contact the dog’s owner or the proper authorities, or send the group a direct message.
“Please slow down. A life was lost,” BARK said in its appeal to motorists.
