A newborn baby boy was found dead inside a trash bin near a boarding house in Barangay Cangawa, Buenavista, Bohol, on Monday night, Aug. 3.
Buenavista Police Station said the infant was discovered after a resident noticed a strong foul odor coming from the trash bin. The resident checked the bin and immediately reported the discovery to authorities.
Initial examination showed that the baby’s umbilical cord was still attached when he was found.
The following morning, Tuesday, Aug. 4, a 20-year-old female college student went to the Buenavista Police Station and allegedly admitted that she was the mother of the deceased infant.
The woman was subsequently admitted to a hospital for medical attention and proper care.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the newborn’s death and determine whether there is sufficient basis to file appropriate charges against those who may be responsible.
