The Bohol provincial engineer’s office concluded that overloading could be the cause of the collapse of Borja Bridge in Catigbian town on Thursday, June 16.

Provincial Engineer Camilo Gasatan, in his report to Gov. Arthur Yap, said that the truck was loaded with 24 cubic meter wet sand or a weight total of 46.4 tons.

The bridge has a 20-ton load limit.

The incident took place when a 12-wheel trailer-truck was crossing the narrow Borja Bridge, leading to the vehicle falling on the river bed.

Catigbian police said there were no report of injuries.

Truck driver Nemerico Paredes, 46, said when he crossed the bridge, it suddenly collapsed.

“Kalit lang minghugno paglabay nako,” said Paredes.
