TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado on Wednesday called on Boholanos to remain united in preserving the province’s heritage and building a brighter future as Bohol celebrated its 172nd founding anniversary.

In his commemorative message during the Bohol Day celebration at the Bohol Cultural Center, Aumentado described Bohol as more than a province or a world-renowned tourist destination, saying it is a place where the stories, values, and identity of every Boholano begin.

“As history tells us when Bohol became a province, it is love that reminds us why Bohol has always been our home,” the governor said.

The event was attended by Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos, who served as the keynote speaker for the celebration.

Aumentado reflected on the province’s natural beauty—from its mountains and seas to the peaceful countryside—which, he said, has shaped generations of Boholanos and continues to provide comfort even to those living far from home.

He said these memories inspire Boholanos to remain connected to their roots and strengthen their resolve to protect the province for future generations.

The governor also highlighted the enduring significance of the Sandugo, describing it as a symbol of friendship, trust, confidence, and peace that continues to guide the province in creating opportunities for its people.

Aumentado said Bohol’s progress through the years has been made possible by the unity and resilience of its people, noting that every achievement is the result of collective effort rather than individual success.

He emphasized that despite the challenges the province has faced, Boholanos have remained steadfast, courageous, and committed to moving forward while staying true to the values that have defined the province across generations.

The governor also recalled that it has been 172 years since Bohol was separated from Cebu and established as a distinct province, but said its people’s determination to honor their heritage and leave a meaningful legacy remains unwavering.

He urged Boholanos, wherever they may be in the world, to continue carrying the spirit of Bohol in their hearts through service, pride, and love for their homeland.

“Wherever life may lead us, may we always carry Bohol in our hearts, just as Bohol will always welcome us home,” Aumentado said.
