More than just “Araw ng Kalayaan,” Boholanos gathered on Wednesday, June 12, to commemorate the 126th Philippine Independence Day, which celebrates Filipinos’ enduring commitment to protecting the Filipino nation.
Acting Governor Dionisio Victor Balite led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Capitol Grounds assisted by the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the Philippines.
Provincial Administrator Asteria Caberte and Board Members Lucille Lagunay, Benjie Arcamo, Aldner Damalerio, and Greg Jala accompanied Balite in the ceremonial activity honoring Filipino heroes.
The celebration proceeded with a program at the Ceremonial Hall of the Capitol, with Balite emphasizing the importance of learning from the past to guide the future development of Bohol in his speech.
He underscored the Strategic Change Agenda under Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado and his administration, which ensures cultural respect, resilience, and progress through good and honest governance.
“As Bohol strives to become a smart, resilient, and inclusive province, the lessons that we have learned from those who have come before us will serve as a guiding light toward building a future where every Boholano is proud of our traditions, culture, and heritage,” he said.
Balite also drew on historical resilience as inspiration for current challenges.
“Even with the presence of a myriad of challenges, the heroism shown by our brave men and women during tumultuous times should inspire us to move forward and face all obstacles with confidence, showcasing what we, as the descendants of Dagohoy, can do to build stronger communities,” said Balite.
The event also presented the official candidates for Miss Bohol 2024. (PIMO/RJG)
