TAGBILARAN CITY — The administrative officer of Bohol Island State University (BISU)-Candijay Campus who was found dead after being missing for two days was allegedly murdered by his 18-year-old nephew, police said.

The victim was identified as Dexter Timbal Hinayon, 33, a resident of Barangay Can-olin, Candijay, Bohol. His body was found in a grassy, secluded area of the same barangay on Tuesday, July 21.

Investigators said Hinayon’s cellphone, which had been left at Kusina Nativo Restaurant where he worked as manager, provided crucial information that led authorities to the location of his body and to the identification of the suspect.

Hinayon served as director of the Cashier’s Office at BISU-Candijay Campus. His family had reported him missing after he failed to return home for two days.

Police investigation showed that the victim was allegedly strangled at one location before his body was dumped in another grassy area nearby. His mouth had been sealed with tape, while his hands were bound and his knees and chest were also wrapped with adhesive tape.

The suspect was identified as Jesse Requiz, 18, the victim’s nephew. Police said Requiz’s father is Hinayon’s first cousin.

According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly demanded P2,000 from the victim. When Hinayon reportedly gave him only P1,000, the suspect allegedly became enraged, leading to the fatal attack.

Police later approached Requiz while he was attending classes and invited him for questioning. During the investigation, he allegedly confessed to the killing.

Authorities have filed a murder case against the suspect as the investigation into the incident continues.
