TAGBILARAN CITY — Bohol’s inflation rate slowed to 7.0 percent in June 2026, down from 7.4 percent in May, allowing the province to retain the lowest inflation rate among provinces in Central Visayas, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
In a report, the PSA said the slower inflation was mainly driven by lower price increases in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, transport, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
However, PSA Bohol Chief Supervising Statistical Specialist Jessamyne Anne Alcazaren said inflation could have eased further had there been slower price increases in food and non-alcoholic beverages, transport, and household furnishings, equipment and routine maintenance.
Food inflation accelerated to 9.3 percent in June from 8.4 percent in May, fueled by higher prices of fish and other seafood, rice, meat, fruits, ready-made food products, and cooking oils and fats. Corn prices also increased, although prices of eggs, milk, sugar, and confectionery products declined.
The PSA said low-income households continued to bear the brunt of rising prices. Inflation for the bottom 30 percent of income households rose to 8.9 percent in June from 8.6 percent in May.
Alcazaren said poorer families were particularly affected by higher prices of rice, fish and seafood, meals served in eateries and cafés, gasoline for private vehicles, and sea transport fares.
