TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — The municipal government of Maribojoc has announced the full closure of Bato Bridge in Barangay Cabawan for one month to facilitate repair works on the damaged bridge approach caused by soil settlement.

In a public advisory, the local government said the bridge will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians from July 14 to Aug. 12, 2026.

Authorities said the temporary closure is necessary to ensure public safety and allow the contractor to carry out rectification and repair works without interruption.

During the closure, motorists, commuters, residents, and other road users are advised to take designated alternate routes and follow traffic advisories and instructions from traffic personnel and local authorities.

The municipality said access to the bridge will only be restored after the repairs have been completed and the structure has passed the required safety inspections.

The announcement came hours after residents endured hazardous conditions as high tide submerged portions of the damaged bridge approach on Monday, July 13.

A video posted on Facebook by resident Scara Joe showed students, workers, and other commuters wading through floodwaters or using small boats to cross after seawater inundated the bridge approaches.

The bridge approach has been undergoing repairs following soil settlement that forced authorities to close the crossing to traffic.

The flooding caused by high tide further complicated rehabilitation efforts and highlighted the need for a full closure to complete the repair works safely.
