Palm oil harvester dies from electrocution in Danao

DANAO, Bohol — A 34-year-old palm oil harvester died after he was electrocuted while harvesting palm fruit in Sitio New Cebu, Barangay Cantubod, Danao town, on July 7.

The victim was identified as Lormelito Celocia, 34, married, and a resident of Sitio Camarin, Barangay San Carlos, Danao.

According to the initial police investigation, Celocia was using an improvised long bamboo pole fitted with a sharp metal hook to cut down clusters of palm oil fruit.

While harvesting, the bamboo pole accidentally came into contact with an energized overhead power line located near the palm trees, causing the victim to suffer a fatal electric shock.

Celocia was rushed to the Danao Municipal Health Office for emergency treatment but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The Danao Municipal Police Station is conducting a further investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
