TAGBILARAN CITY — An American tourist died after he was allegedly struck with a chair during a fistfight at a bar along Alona Beach in Panglao, Bohol, on Saturday night, Sept. 26.
The victim was identified as “Bob”, 63, who was temporarily staying at a resort in Barangay Tawala.
The incident happened at a bar shortly before midnight on Saturday, Sept. 26, police said.
A concerned citizen reported the trouble to the Bohol Tourist Police Unit at about 11:45 p.m. Responding officers found “Bob” and a certain “Anthony”, 41, of Dimiao, engaged in a heated altercation.
The two, who appeared to be under the influence of liquor, exchanged blows before “Anthony” allegedly grabbed a chair and struck “Bob” causing him to lose consciousness.
“Bob” was rushed to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center in Tagbilaran City but was declared dead on arrival at about 12:20 a.m
“Anthony” was arrested at the scene and later turned over to the Panglao Police Station.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses as the investigation continues.
