MARIBOJOC, Bohol — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bohol 1st District Engineering Office has assured the public that Bato Bridge in Barangay Cabawan, Maribojoc remains structurally sound despite the recent settlement of a portion of its bridge approach that prompted its temporary closure.
In a statement issued on Friday, June 12, the DPWH-Bohol 1st District Engineering Office said it immediately mobilized heavy equipment and maintenance personnel to address the problem and prevent further disruption to motorists and nearby residents.
A technical team was promptly deployed to inspect the affected area. Based on the initial assessment, engineers found that the bridge itself did not sustain any structural damage and remains safe. However, authorities temporarily closed access to the bridge to all vehicular traffic to allow emergency repair works on the damaged approaches.
The DPWH said it is working closely with the project contractor to carry out round-the-clock repair operations.
The ongoing works include the removal and replacement of damaged slope protection structures and bridge link slabs to restore safe and convenient passage across the bridge.
Officials emphasized that all repair works will be undertaken and financed entirely by the project contractor, with no additional cost to the government.
The agency said restoration efforts are being expedited to reopen the bridge as soon as possible and minimize inconvenience to the public.
DPWH also appealed for patience, understanding, and cooperation from residents and motorists while repair works are underway, assuring them that updates will be provided as developments arise.
The temporary closure of Bato Bridge has affected transportation in the area, with authorities implementing traffic advisories while repairs continue.
