TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — The provincial government of Bohol will deploy a Search, Rescue, and Retrieval (SRR) team from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to assist in response operations in General Santos City following a powerful earthquake that struck Mindanao on Monday, June 8.
Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado said the province will send personnel to help in ongoing emergency response efforts after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit the area early Monday morning.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the quake was the strongest to hit the country this year. It was centered offshore, approximately 13 kilometers southwest of General Santos City, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was triggered by movement along the Cotabato Trench and struck at 7:37 a.m.
Authorities continue to assess the extent of damage and possible aftershocks as local and national agencies coordinate response and relief operations in affected areas.
Bohol’s deployment is part of its commitment to support disaster-stricken communities across the country through inter-provincial cooperation and emergency assistance.
