TAGBILARAN CITY — Veteran journalist Francisco “Ric” Obedencio was laid to rest on Saturday, May 30, at the Dampas Catholic Cemetery, where family, friends, colleagues, and members of the media community gathered to bid him a final farewell.
At around 4:30 p.m., Obedencio was brought to his final resting place following funeral rites attended by loved ones and fellow journalists who paid tribute to his life and decades of service in the media profession.
Members of the local media community expressed their grief and shared memories of Obedencio’s dedication to journalism, highlighting his commitment to delivering accurate and timely news to the public.
Tributes and messages of condolence continued to pour in as colleagues, friends, and supporters honored the veteran reporter’s contributions to the industry and the community he served.

Passionate journalist
Obedencio, a former president of the Bohol Tri-Media Association and longtime correspondent for The Freeman and The Philippine Star, passed away on May 22 at the age of 69.
Remembered as a steadfast and passionate journalist, he spent decades covering stories that informed the public through both print and radio journalism.
His passing marks the end of a distinguished career in media, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, integrity, and unwavering dedication to truth and public service.
