TAGBILARAN CITY— Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado made a surprise visit on Saturday evening to a beach in Barangay Tawala, Panglao, where he personally witnessed ongoing efforts to protect a sea turtle nesting site.

During the visit, the governor observed personnel from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and local government workers installing a bamboo enclosure around a nest containing sea turtle eggs.

The protective barrier was set up to prevent tourists from accidentally stepping on the eggs and to ensure their safe incubation.

Aumentado commended the coordinated efforts of the environmental agencies and local government personnel, describing the activity as a strong example of collaboration in preserving and protecting Bohol’s natural resources.

The governor said the return of sea turtles to Tawala’s shores to lay eggs is an encouraging sign that the area’s marine ecosystem remains healthy and conducive to wildlife.

He also called on resort owners, tourism stakeholders, and the public to continue working together to maintain the cleanliness and sustainability of Panglao’s coastal and marine environments.

According to Aumentado, Bohol’s pristine beaches and rich marine biodiversity are among the province’s greatest tourism assets, making it essential to safeguard them for future generations rather than allow them to be exploited.

The governor also cited the rehabilitation of the popular Virgin Island sandbar in Panglao, which was temporarily closed to visitors after concerns over environmental degradation.

He said the move reflected the provincial government’s commitment to protecting coral ecosystems and marine life through responsible environmental management.

The sea turtle nesting activity in Tawala highlights the continuing importance of conservation efforts in Panglao, one of Bohol’s premier tourist destinations, as authorities seek to balance tourism development with environmental protection.
