TAGBILARAN CITY — Bohol 1st district Rep. John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II voted in favor of the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte during the plenary session of the House of Representatives on Monday, May 11.

However, Yap did not provide an explanation for his vote during the session, and no statement regarding his decision had been posted on his social media accounts as of posting time.

Meanwhile, 2nd dist. Rep. Vanessa Cadorna-Aumentado and 3rd dist. Rep. Alexie Besas-Tutor voted against the impeachment proceedings.

In separate statements, the two lawmakers said their decisions were based on consultations and the sentiments expressed by many Boholanos who do not support the impeachment complaint against Duterte.

“My vote is ‘NO,’ guided by my commitment to listen to the voice and sentiments of the majority of my constituents in the second district of Bohol,” Aumentado said.

Tutor likewise said her vote reflected the position of her constituents across the province’s largest congressional district.

“My vote of NO reflects the voice of my people in the 3rd district of Bohol, which includes 436 barangays and 19 municipalities, making it the largest district in Bohol,” Tutor said.

She added that her decision was a true reflection of the will of the people in the third district.

“By standing by this decision, I remain committed to protecting our democratic institutions while ensuring that the government’s efforts are focused on issues that truly matter to the lives of our people,” she said.

The House approved the impeachment proceedings with 255 votes in favor, 26 against, and nine abstentions—surpassing the required one-third vote to elevate the complaint to the Senate, where Vice President Sara Duterte will face trial.
