TAGBILARAN CITY — Former Bohol governor and representative Arthur Yap clarified that he did not participate in the House voting on the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday, May 11.

Yap, who now represents the Murang Kuryente Party-list in the House of Representatives, was among the lawmakers listed as not participating in the vote.

In a video message, Yap denied reports of a news outlet claiming that he voted in favor of the impeachment complaint, calling the information “fake news.”

Meanwhile, John Geesnell Yap II voted in favor of the impeachment proceedings during the plenary session on Monday, May 11.

However, the first district lawmaker did not give any explanation for his vote during the session, and as of posting time, no statement had been issued on his social media accounts.

On the other hand, 2nd dist. Rep. Vanessa Aumentado and 3rd dist. Rep. Alexie Tutor voted against the impeachment proceedings.

“My vote is ‘NO,’ guided by my commitment to listen to the voice and sentiments of the majority of my constituents in the second district of Bohol,” Aumentado said.

Tutor said her decision reflected the sentiments of constituents in Bohol’s largest congressional district.

“By standing by this decision, I remain committed to protecting our democratic institutions while ensuring that the government’s efforts are focused on issues that truly matter to the lives of our people,” she said.

She added that her vote was a true reflection of the will of the people in the third district.

The House approved the impeachment proceedings with 255 votes in favor, 26 against, and nine abstentions, exceeding the required one-third vote to elevate the complaint to the Senate, where Vice President Duterte will face trial.
