TAGBILARAN CITY — Two lawmakers from Bohol have expressed their opposition to the impeachment process against Vice President Sara Duterte following the House plenary vote on Monday, May 11.

The lawmakers were 2nd District Rep. Vanessa Cadorna- Aumentado and 3rd District Rep. Alexie Besas-Tutor, both of whom voted “No” on the impeachment proceedings.

In separate statements, the two legislators said their decisions were based on consultations and the sentiments expressed by many Boholanos who do not support the impeachment complaint against Duterte.

“My vote is ‘NO,’ guided by my commitment to listen to the voice and sentiments of the majority of my constituents in the second district of Bohol,” Aumentado said.

Earlier, Aumentado said she had consulted local leaders and residents in her district before making her decision.

Tutor likewise said her vote reflected the position of her constituents across the province’s largest congressional district.

“My vote of NO reflects the voice of my people in the 3rd district of Bohol, which includes 436 barangays and 19 municipalities, making it the largest district in Bohol,” Tutor said.
“As their representative, I am responding to their call that there are other urgent priorities to address during this time of crisis. I have thoroughly consulted with our people, and this decision represents the overwhelming majority in my district,” she added.

Tutor also said her vote was a true reflection of the will of the people of the third district.

“By standing by this decision, I remain committed to protecting our democratic institutions while ensuring that the government’s efforts are focused on issues that truly matter to the lives of our people,” she said.
