TAGBILARAN CITY — The Panglao Municipal Police Station has filed charges against a 37-year-old uncle who admitted to killing his 18-year-old niece in Barangay Doljo, Panglao, Bohol.
The suspect was identified as Elmo Lood, a 37-year-old cook and neighbor of the victim.
The victim, Jerose Lood, 18, was found lifeless in a grassy area in Sitio Talisay, Barangay Doljo, bearing multiple stab wounds on her body.
According to Police Major Sherwin Destora, chief of the Panglao Municipal Police Station, the suspect confessed to the crime after being confronted by his relatives, reportedly after being overwhelmed by guilt.
Based on the initial police investigation, the suspect and the victim were reportedly drinking alcohol before going to the seaside, where a heated argument allegedly broke out, leading to the fatal stabbing.
Authorities said the motive for the argument remains unclear.
The suspect denied allegations that he raped the victim, but police expressed doubt over his statement after it was noted that the victim was found without underwear.
Due to this, the police have requested an autopsy on the victim’s body to determine whether there is evidence of sexual assault.
Authorities continue to investigate the case as appropriate charges are being prepared against the suspect.
