Drinking session turns fatal in Carmen, Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY — A man was killed after he was stabbed by his drinking companion during a violent altercation in Barangay El Progreso, Carmen town, on Thursday evening.

The victim, identified as Johnny Cabarde Baquilid, 46, married and a resident of Sitio Mas-ing, Barangay San Vicente in Dagohoy, sustained a stab wound to the abdomen.

The suspect, Victor Asares Buslon, 48, a married farmer and resident of Purok 2 in the same barangay, is now in police custody.

According to police investigation, the victim and the suspect had been drinking together at a local store from around 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Earlier that afternoon, the suspect returned home, while the victim later proceeded with his wife, Emelyn, to the nearby house of the suspect’s brother.

There, the couple continued drinking and singing videoke, while the suspect remained in his own residence.

At about 9 p.m., the suspect allegedly armed himself with a kitchen knife and went to his brother’s house, where he suddenly stabbed the victim in the right side of the stomach.

After the attack, the suspect fled toward a nearby rice field and disposed of the weapon.

The victim was immediately brought to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center in Tagbilaran City but later died from his injuries.

Police responding to the incident were able to arrest the suspect shortly afterward. Investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances and motive behind the killing.
