BACLAYON, Bohol — The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) clarified that a viral video showing an alleged kidnapping in Baclayon town was not a criminal abduction but a domestic dispute.
In a press statement issued on Easter Sunday, April 5, police said a thorough investigation and coordination with the parties involved revealed that the incident stemmed from a personal misunderstanding and estrangement.
Authorities said what appeared to be a kidnapping was actually a forceful attempt at reconciliation between individuals in a domestic relationship.
The case was initially reported as coercion to the Baclayon Municipal Police Station but has since been settled privately. The concerned party has executed an affidavit of desistance, confirming reconciliation and the resumption of their relationship.
With no complaint being pursued, the BPPO considers the case closed.
Police assured the public that the incident was isolated and posed no threat to public safety. However, they noted that the circulation of the video without proper context caused unnecessary alarm.
The BPPO also urged the public to exercise caution in sharing unverified information online and to rely on official police reports to prevent misinformation and panic.
The provincial police office, led by Provincial Director Col. Patricio Degay Jr., reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order across Bohol.
