TAGBILARAN CITY — Eight gasoline stations in Bohol have been issued show-cause orders by the Department of Energy (DOE) over alleged excessive fuel pricing, Governor Aris Aumentado said.
The move came after a Provincial Price Coordinating Council (PPCC) meeting, where concerns over rising oil prices and their impact on consumers were discussed.
Aumentado said the action forms part of intensified government efforts to regulate fuel prices and protect the public amid ongoing economic pressures linked to global oil supply issues.
The governor led the coordination meeting attended by provincial department heads, national government agencies, and private sector representatives to strengthen monitoring of prices and supply of essential goods, particularly food and petroleum products.
During the meeting, Aumentado issued firm directives to enhance price surveillance and ensure sufficient supply across the province, while warning against possible overpricing practices.
According to the DOE, the eight gas stations were ordered to explain the basis of their pricing following complaints of unusually high fuel rates.
Aumentado also expressed appreciation to local government units (LGUs) for their continued monitoring and timely reporting to the DOE, noting that these efforts are crucial in holding violators accountable.
He added that discussions also covered potential assistance for sectors heavily affected by rising fuel prices, including overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), farmers, transport groups, and fisherfolk.
Further action is expected from the DOE after evaluating the responses of the concerned gasoline stations.
